Welcome to Room 136...
I am so excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year. First grade is such an exciting time where your child will grow as an individual and a learner. In First Grade we believe personalized learning will allow your child to take ownership of their learning and grow as a first grader. We want students to see learning as a lifelong experience that isn't confined to the four walls of the classroom or limited to being led by their teachers. We have a generative curriculum and believe in a constructivist philosophy where we listen to the interests of students to guide our learning experiences.
Some of my beliefs are…
Some of my beliefs are…
- Everyone learns differently and each student’s education experience should be designed to meet his or her unique needs.
- Our classroom is a community of learners
- Student’s voices will be heard
- Our environment should not feel like a classroom, but like a home. I believe all students learn differently. Some students work better in a quiet workspace, others work well collaboratively. Some students’ work well spread out on the floor or at a table. I have adjusted our physical space to create a collaborative/personalized learning environment.
- I believe in teaching our children to be learners
- Students will be accountable for their own learning and set their own learning goals
- In anytime/anywhere learning

I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher, it is going to be their best year yet! This will be my 11th year teaching and my 8th year here at Canterbury. I graduated with my degree from Carroll University and completed my Master's of Teaching and Learning from Carroll, Go PIOS! My husband and I reside in Eagle with our two little guys, Bennett (5) and Parker (4) as well as twin girls Madelynn and Mckenna who were born in June! I also can't forget about our fur baby, Mila the Goldendoodle. I love to be outdoors, kayak, paddleboard, hike, read and spend time with my family. I am from Illinois and am a BEARS and CUBS fan. I am excited for a great year ahead and look forward to being your child's first grade teacher.
